English language challenges

Hi everyone! today is the last day that I’m going to write a blog in this class of english and because of that I’m going to tell you about my experience all along the semester and my plans regarding learning English. 

So in first place I had a good experience learning English at the university but it is not that different from school english. The difference between these two is in the use of blogs, and I really like them by the way, because is a brand new method to me and I think that it is a good way to get use to write in another language. 

But even if I think that I can write without a major difficulty I definitely have to improve my speak and pronunciation. Even sometimes when I speak I don't understand myself haha. In that case the videos that we make for the class have been very helpful because they need a practice and dedication to make them right and to try to not talk like a robot haha. To improve that I’m going to practice my pronunciation even more. 

And finally I can say that I use the english almost everyday outside the English class, even outside the university. I use it for understand the music that I listen and the movies that I watch (with subtitles obviously haha) and to read some texts. I can say that in my case I have learn english more easily because of the music, it have been very helpful and I can practice my pronunciation by singing too! That is all, bye!!

My study program - Social Work

Hi everyone! in this opportunity I´m going to talk about my career and the changes that I would like to make to the study program. I’ve heard a lot about subjects that are just wasting the time of the students in a lot of universities and faculties; in every single career.

In my case I´am studying Social Work in the faculty of social science and there are a few subjects that, in my opinion, shouldn't be on the curriculum like the obligatory extra courses. I'm talking about the CFG and the sport courses. I'm not saying that they are a waste of time because I have been in some of them and they are really good but the problem is that they are obligatory for the career and sometimes the time to pass every course is not enough.

Another subject that in my opinion must be changed are the ones that doesn't have much in common with the future of the career like, in my case, philosophy. I like philosophy but I just don't like the focus that the program gives to it (also it was very difficult and I really don't like it). I just don't like the way the professor teach us, his methods wasn't so good in my opinion.

But in general I think that all the subjects that I’ve have until now has teach me new things like to use Excel and others programs for the computer. Finally and I think that if I have came to hate some subject is because the academic charge.

Questions and answers!

• What is your opinion about tattoos?

Well I think that tattoos are very pretty and also a cool way to express feelings or whatever people want. Personally I think that tattoos can show us a little part of the personality of the people and I would love to have one someday! maybe in my arms or legs and I want that at least one of my future tattoos have a special meaning to me.

• What is your opinion about animal testing?

First of all, I think that if we talk about animal testing we are talking about animal abuse too. Animals had feelings and I don't think that the testing of makeup is a reason to experiment with them; nothing is a reason to experiment with them really. So I am really against it and I think that there is another way, a cruelty free way, to make things.

• What is your opinion about the Chilean tradition called ‘mechoneo’?

I don't like it, I just think that “mechoneo” is an abuse of power to the young people who are recently included in the university. I remember that in my first year of university I was so nervous about that, I didn't know what clothes use or what day it was going to be but the “mechoneo” never happened because it was cancelled. So I'm against “mechoneo” and just a funny welcome is ok.  

• What is your opinion about recycling?

I think that recycling is a good way to help the planet. Make things useful again is a really good idea and very sustainable! But I think that  the real problem are the big industries.

What would I do if I won the lottery?

Hello! in this opportunity I’m not going to write about things that I like or that had happened to me. Today I'm going to dream and imagine what would I do if I won the lottery.

Well first of all, if I won the lottery I'm probably going to be too excited about it and I would tell all the people I love and the next day we would celebrate it with so much food and drinks haha, It is a thing that doesn't happen every day and obviously not to everyone so it IS a occasion to celebrate.

Then probably I´m going to help my family to get a house and all the things that we need so we can have a good and comfortable life.

After I help my loved ones I would like to travel around the world. There is so much places that I would like to visit, so many cultures and people that I would love to meet but my starting point would be Chile. Going from north to south and then to Rapa Nui is like a dream to me.

And then, in the case that the lottery was a big price, I would like to invest in a good business because the money won't last forever. Something like a little store to have it like a second option.

I think that if anyone in the future won the lottery would be fantastic haha

Post graduate studies

Hello! In this blog I’m going to talk about a postgraduate course that I would like to take in the future, but not really to be honest haha. It is because i don't know if I want to take one in the university. I think that if I have the chance to keep studying I would like to do a course from another area, different from the social science like lessons of gastronomy or something related to cooking; that is because I wish I could develop other skills and it is a very interesting area.

If I follow that path I would like to do it in Chile but in a different city (Santiago just bored me sometimes) and the subjects I would like to study could be things like learn to make a cake and all the sweet desserts, just love them!

If I think about the “how I would like to study” I may choose a part-time course because it is not a full-time option. To pay the lessons I have to work and also I love what I am studying right now so even if a take that extra course I'm going to be a social worker <3

So if I think about that option, it sounds very funny and lovely to be a cook-social worker haha all my friends would have the opportunity to eat a lot!

My favourite animal

In first place I would like to said that I like all the animals, even the ones that I’m scared of haha. But my favourite one is the cat because of many reasons and then I´m going to tell you some of them.

To start, the cats are so adorable and fluffy. They have a very soft hair all over the body and their paws are like skinny pillows; I love the paw print they leave behind! and when a cat feel safe and comfortable in some place or with someone they make a purr and then start to play. The cats love to get ALL the attention.

The "puss in boots" eyes

Another feature is the love they can give. Some people think that the cats are evil and cold but their eyes are so full of affection and I think (also I have heard so many people saying this) that their love can help you in hard times. In my case I have three cats and I love them because when they put their “puss in boots” eyes I feel so happy and I know that their are happy too.

Well, in conclusion I think that all the animals are specials and have some features that makes them unique and every one of them must be loved.

My favorite series

One of the things that I do in my free time, and that I like the most, is watch series. The ones that caught me with its plot and wonderful characters are Peaky Blinders and Game of Thrones, but this last one is my favorite!  

It is about a fantasy world where exist seven kingdoms and only one throne to rule it all. It has eight seasons, every one of them full of exciting and unexpected moments. At first it sound like a typical series wheres are dragons, crazy kings and knights but it is A LOT more.

The show has been broadcasting since 2010 and this year is the very end, the last season of my favorite series. In fact it end this week! and I'm very anxious and sad at the same time because I want to know whats is going to happen but I don't want it to end:( it is a strange feeling hahaha

Also, I would to say that all the characters have a nice developed like Arya Stark or The Hound. I like them very much. Game of thrones is such a great series! I recommended it if you haven't see it yet.

My future job

Hi! my name is Ivette and in this opportunity I’m going to talk about a job that I would like to do in the future.

In first place I think that is important to say that I’m studying Social Work. Actually I'm in my third semester and the job that I would like to do when I finish the career it’s related to that. 

I think that it could be in a institution with children like SENAME or in a women's prison. And I really hope it could be in a different city because I don't want to stay in Santiago. 

And to do that job I really need some skills because the situation is not easy. I need to have the knowledge to intervene and also I need to know how to intervene. That is very important.

If I do that I think that the satisfaction that I would get is the joy of knowing that I am helping someone else. If I could make a change in someone else’s life I would be so happy, even if it is a little one. 

The best holidays I’ve ever had

I think that the best holiday we can ever had are with the right people and the ones that we love the most. In my case the best holidays I’ve ever had were with friends.

I remember that in one opportunity, before finishing school, I went to the south of chile with my friends and classmates. I remember that we arrived in Puerto Montt; then we visited Chiloé, Puerto Varas, Valdivia and a lot of places making a lot of memories together. In that places I ate a lot of food and we had some inconvenients too but that's another story.

I take a lot of pictures of every place (I don't have them here so I can't show them:() because the landscape and the weather was beautiful! I have memories of the sea, the sunsets, the rivers, lakes, volcanoes and the people who lived there was so nice <3

I think that in the future I´m going to live in some city of the south because I fell in love with the place.

The country I would like to visit

It is difficult to choose only a country because there is so many beautiful places all around the world! But after thinking about it I decided that I would like to visit Holland (and also the Netherlands haha). This country is located in Europe, in the west of the Netherlands and is so rich in history and culture; also the pictures that I have seen in movies are like a dream.

I would like to visit every place in holland! but principally there are two: the capital Amsterdam because there are so much to do, like go to the museums, walk all along the streets and navigate the canals in a boat haha. The other place may be Kinderdijk because of the natural landscapes in it; another important and very interesting thing of Kinderdijk are the nineteen windmills! (very classic and part of the stereotype of Holland).

In conclusion Holland and the Netherlands are one of the places that I really hope to visit one day but first I would like to have the opportunity of travel around all Latinoamerica because there are more significant culture to me.

Personal opinions

1) I think that they are very useful and funny because we all can be informed about the things that happen in the world and also used them as an entertainment. 

2) I don't think that religion is a very useful thing in our days because of his patriarchal speech and others.

3) In some ways that is true because it is an old idea of “eternal and true love” but I’m okay with it.

4) I like to go out sometimes but I truly prefer stay in home and watch some movie with snacks, so I choose Netflix and chill.
